Erosion Table
Spigot on the Erosion Table
LOCATION: WATER WORKS ON THE UPPER LEVEL
When water moves quickly over land, it carries away dirt and rocks. This is erosion. When the water slows down, it drops the dirt and rocks. This is deposition.
When you visit – Try This:
1. Use your hand to dig a long, wide, winding channel from the source to the catch basin.
2. Turn on the water. What path does the water follow? Is your channel changing? How?
Sometimes, a winding (or meandering) river cuts across its channel to form an oxbow lake. Did your river form any oxbow lakes?
