Mercy Kids Move
Mercy Children’s Hospital and Imagination Station Partnership
Mercy Children’s Hospital awarded Imagination Station a sponsorship that provided an exciting opportunity for over 2,000 3rd grade students enrolled through the Catholic Diocese, Oregon City Schools, Bedford Public Schools, Rosa Parks Elementary School, Sherman Elementary and Old West End Academy to visit Imagination Station. The program has several components listed in more detail below.
1. The 2011 Pedometer Challenge
Teachers, we’re asking your class to participate in a pedometer challenge, by walking to Cape Canaveral, Florida. That’s just 1,112 miles (or for a classroom of 25 students, that’s only 44.5 miles each.) For more information and to download the printable map and chart, CLICK HERE!
2. Survey
Hey Teachers! We need your students’ input!
Mercy Children’s Hospital and Imagination Station are interested in the impact of the Mercy Kids Move program. Please read this survey to your students at the beginning of the program and again after you have visited Imagination Station and completed the pedometer challenge.
Was there a change in attitude and/or behavior among your students? This survey can be a valuable tool for you as well!
Thank you for your participation!
3. Mercy Kids Move Outreach Application
Imagination Station will be providing a select number of our Healthy Habits outreach programs to 3rd grade students in the Catholic Diocese, Bedford Public Schools, Oregon City Schools and select schools in the Toledo Public School district. These programs are funded through the generous support of Mercy Children’s Hospital.
What are my students getting?
Each 3rd grade student will receive a field trip to Imagination Station between February 1st and 4th, 2011. In addition to the field trip, there are a limited number of Healthy Habits Workshops on Wheels (WOWs) available. Please keep in mind that due to the limited number of workshops being offered, Imagination Station cannot guarantee that you will receive your selection. Applications will be reviewed in the order that they are received.
Healthy Habits Workshop on Wheels
In this WOW, students will explore the two key components to a healthy lifestyle- eating nutritious foods and getting enough exercise. This WOW investigates the heart as a muscle, proper portion sizes, calories as energy and the importance of vitamins and nutrients in food. This workshop includes:
- One hour of facilitation for up to 30 students
- Pre-visit activity
- All hands-on materials for your students
- Post-visit extension
- Content standards alignment for programming
Here are some great photos from February and March when many of the schools visited Imagination Station. Thank you Mercy Children’s Hospital!
