Gingerbread House Winner Announced!
Toledo, Ohio – Culinary Arts students from Penta Career Center designed and built 38 gingerbread houses that were showcased during the holiday season at Imagination Station, from November 19-January 2. During that time, visitors to the science center were asked to vote for their favorite confection. Thousands of votes came in and a winner has been crowned.
First Place Winner
Paige Elsass from Perrysburg High School received the most votes for her edible depiction of a barn filled with farm animals. The red and blue barn, complete with the Ohio Bicentennial logo, features sugary likenesses of a sheep, cow, rooster and pig, which help add to the whimsical nature of her creation.
Second Place Winner
Created by Summer Johnson from Anthony Wayne High School. Ms. Johnson used row after row of colorful candy to create a memorable rooftop to top her gingerbread house surrounded by a variety of evergreen trees and a burning bonfire.
Third Place Winner
Created by Ben Winne from Lake High School. Perhaps the most notable presence in Mr. Winne’s creation are the peppermint columns supporting the steeple of his beautiful replica of a church.
Fourth Place Winner
Created by Victoria Lamb-Seward from Bowling Green High School. Delicate detail was expressed in Ms. Lamb’s townhouse creation as she created 3 dwellings in one.
Each house reflected the culmination of the semester’s class work by each student. From project planning, baking and decorating, each gingerbread creation counted as a grade for the student as well as a personalized tribute to the holiday craft so many have grown to love over the years. The entire house, even the support structure, was edible. They used candy, cookies, cereal, snacks, and of course gingerbread – as long as it was edible it could be used. For a full photo album of all the gingerbread houses, please visit the Imagination Station facebook page.
Imagination Station is providing the 1st place winner with a one-year family membership to Imagination Station. 2nd-4thplace winners will each receive a family 4-pack of admission tickets.
The Imagination Station, located on the downtown Toledo riverfront, is a science center dedicated to delivering science and technology based programming to youth and their families throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.
