The second Tinkering Van, Gear, was introduced. The addition of Gear allows Imagination Station to reach more than 600 new families, every year, with new equipment and additional programming.

April 8th was the Super Bowl of Science, the culmination of an exciting year filled with inspiring wonder and curiosity and a ‘Totality Awesome’ Watch Party shared with over 6,000 science enthusiasts. Visitors came from South Africa, Switzerland, Canada, California, New Jersey, Washington, Michigan and of course the Toledo region.

Imagination Station sets a Guinness World Record for collecting the most glass bottles for recycling in one hour: 20,987 lb 8.38 oz (9,519.78 kg). The record-breaking event took place during the Science of Guinness World Records exhibit. Guadalajara, Spain, held the previous record of 5,478 lb 7 oz.

The Tinkering Takeover program debuts, which takes STEM education into the community.  The curriculum is designed to help children ages 11-13 and their families establish personal connections with making and tinkering.

The Rodriguez family, visiting to celebrate their son’s first birthday, marked a major milestone as Imagination Station’s two millionth visitors.

The 8,200-square-foot addition houses the KeyBank Discovery Theater, a premium large-format theater, a projection room, expanded concourse, concessions, restrooms and retail space. 

Construction begins on the privately funded $12 million addition, the single largest addition to the building since Imagination Station’s opening.

Imagination Station rings in 2018 by dropping 10,000 bouncy balls. If all of the balls were to hit at once, it would have been 2,500 pounds of force. 

The new permanent installation encourages kids to explore STEM learning through doing with eight interactive exhibits and a working lab.

Five years after opening its doors, Imagination Station welcomes its 1 MILLIONTH visitor. Cory and Heather Jerew and their two daughters were given a lifetime membership to Imagination Station.

The permanent installation shows the journey food goes on from seed to table and looks at agriculture from a local and global perspective.

Imagination Station blended the best of the former COSI Toledo exhibits with dynamic new additions and enhancements, plus over $1 million in renovations. Structured around learning worlds, visitors of every age engage in a multi-sensory experience that's as fun as it is educational. 

A naming contest took place in the spring of 2009, and thousands of submissions were received. The board of directors made the final decision to change The Toledo Science Center to Imagination Station.

Voters approved Issue 37, a 0.17 mill operating levy to reopen the facility as the Toledo Science Center. The levy passed by 3,000 votes.

After two tax levies failed in 2006 and 2007, COSI Toledo closed its doors to the public due to a lack of funding. The science center hosted millions of visitors in its nearly ten years of operation.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the highest honor in the United States awarded to cultural institutions for making significant contributions to their communities.

COSI Toledo, a non-profit, hands-on science museum located on the Maumee River in downtown Toledo, Ohio, opened its doors on March 1, 1997. The facility has over 151 exhibits for children of all ages.
